
Jacques de Tarnowsky, a native of New Orleans and, since 1946, a resident of Baton Rouge most recently residing in Southside Gardens, died at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008. He was 96, born Jan. 5, 1912. He was a retired Realtor and served as residential sales manager and partner of C.J. Brown Realty. He served as president of de Tarnowsky, Shifflet and Kyle Realty (DSK) and as president of the Baton Rouge Board of Realtors. He graduated from the School of Art Institute of Chicago and LSU. He was a member of the City Club. Before World War II, he worked on a mural for the Treasury Department and painted portraits, illustrations and water color landscapes. He volunteered in the U.S. Army, obtaining the rank of captain. He served for four years in World War II with the Army's 819th Engineers, which landed in Normandy on D-Day. Being an avid outdoorsman, he loved sailing, fishing, hunting and boating. He served as commodore of the Bar Harbor Boat Club of Baton Rouge. He was a member of the Pointe Coupee Brittany Club and Hunter's Run Gun Club, where he enjoyed shooting skeet and trap shooting. His fondest memories were bird hunting for 40 years with his friends Robert Pascal and Eugene LeBlanc and their dogs. Jacques is survived by his son, Richard de Tarnowsky; daughters, Sister Juliana de Tarnowsky, C.S.J., and Michele Nett and husband Neil; sister, Louise B. Howard, of Houston; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Jacques and Berthe de Tarnowsky; wives, Audrey Gascon de Tarnowsky and Jean Pugh de Tarnowsky; and brothers, Dr. George de Tarnowsky, who was of Winetka, Ill., and Pierre de Tarnowsky, who was of Nashville, Ind. Visiting at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 20221 Stuart Ave., on Thursday, Feb. 7, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting resumes Friday from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment in Roselawn Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Hospice of Baton Rouge or a favorite charity.
