James A. Sibley

A retired supervisor with Dow Chemical-Glycol 1 with 30 years of service, he died at 5:25 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, at his residence in Pride at the age of 75. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a graduate of LSU. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation at Sandy Creek Baptist Church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the religious service at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. T.W. Terral. Interment in the church cemetery. Survived by his daughter, Janet S. Rose and her husband, Russell L. Sr.; son, Jim Sibley Jr. and his wife, Sinia D.; two sisters, Joyce Tullier and Barbara Miller; four brothers, LeRoy Sibley, Lawrence Sibley, Junior Avants and Charles Avants; and five grandchildren, Russell Lynn Rose Jr., Sara Beth Sibley, Rocio Hernandez, Farrell Lynn Rose and Rosalyn Rose. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years and 21 days, Vergie Kelley Sibley; and parents, James Allen Avants and Lorena Brown Nichols. Pallbearers will be Jim Sibley Jr., Russell L. Rose Sr., Russell L. Rose Jr., Farrell Lynn Rose, Roger Peairs and Rickey Peairs. Honorary pallbearers are Glenn Estave, Joe Mizell and Vic Beaverson. James was a member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church and dedicated himself to community service and serving the Lord, his savior. Memorial donations may be made to Sandy Creek Baptist Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
