

Jared William Bradley, aged 93, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2024, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Born on August 2, 1931, in New Orleans, raised in Covington, and settled in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for most of his life. Jared lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his country, and his passion for Louisiana history.
Jared proudly served in the Covington National Guard in 1951 before joining the Air Force in 1952. He was stationed at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska for 18 months, where he demonstrated his commitment and resilience.
Professionally, Jared was a revered Historian of Louisiana history, an author, professor, and librarian for the Louisiana Library Association. His notable contribution to literature includes the book "Interim W.C.C. Claiborne Letter Book, 1804-1805 Appointment," published by the LSU Press, which is a testament to his meticulous research and love for historical detail.
Jared was a graduate of Covington High School and furthered his education at Louisiana State University, where he earned multiple Master degrees, which fueled his lifelong passion for history and education. His intellectual curiosity was paralleled by his involvement at St. James Episcopal Church Downtown, where he was not only a member but also sang in the church choir.
His personal interests included reading, writing, researching Louisiana history, skiing, and traveling. These activities reflected his adventurous spirit and his constant quest for knowledge.
Jared is survived by his son, Jared "Jed" Bradley, son William and daughter-in-law Alison Bradley; and his grandchildren, Ella, Michael, and Liam Bradley. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Yvonne W. Bradley, and his brothers, Jimmy, Larry, and Wayne Bradley, as well as his parents, James and Myrtle Bradley.
Services to honor Jared's life will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024 at Greenoaks Funeral Home located at 9595 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Viewing will be available from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., followed by the funeral service from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Contributions in memory of Jared can be made to St. James Episcopal Church - Downtown.
Jared's legacy will live on through his family, his contributions to historical scholarship, and the community that he so deeply impacted.
