Jay Michael Martin

Jay Michael Martin passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at the age of 71. He was affectionate, sensitive, a good provider for his family, and a huge protector of his sister. With a sharp mind and a sharper wit, he believed in telling jokes and “leaving them laughing”. He worked for Dolese Bros. Co. concrete and Ascension Ready Mix. In his long professional time, he was a member of the multiple service safety councils. His ready smile, wit and love of his family will endure in our hearts forever. Jay Michael will be watching over his remaining siblings, Rebecca Martin Richardson and husband, and Richard Miller, Jr., Richard Hardgrave, Jr. “Chip” and wife, Kimberly; and niece, Jamie Richardson-Sandhu and husband, Vipinjeet. He is also survived by his girlfriend of 10 years, Nancy Vandegrift; Nancy’s daughter, Heather Davis; Nancy’s sister, Faith Johnson; and her extended family. Jay’s life was full and happy with your love and attention. He leave behind his unofficial “daughter”, Elizabeth Winn and husband, Wess; and unofficial “grandchildren”, BG, Belle, and Audrey Winn. He loved you more than he could say and will always be with you in your hearts. He will continue, as he always has, to love his children, Jennifer Martin, Anna Schech, and Steven Forbes. In the glory of Heaven, Jay Michael joins his mother, Dolores Martin Hardgrave; father, James W. Martin, Jr.; brother, Donald Andrew “Drew” Martin; and aunt, Peggy J. McAndrew. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Monday, August 5, 2024, from 1pm until the memorial services at 2pm.
