She was born on July 14th, 1921 to Henry Thomas Ellender, a merchant and an agricultural agent, and Jessie Chauvin Ellender in the town of Bourg, La. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years Francis Patrick Henchy, her daughter Kathryne Henchy Leonard and granddaughter, Lauren Savoy Olinde. Graduating from LSU with a degree in home economics in 1942, she taught in Raceland prior to marrying Francis. Her surviving children and spouses include Nancy Henchy Savoy, and her husband Michael Savoy and their children Jennifer Savoie and Jacob Savoy; Frank Henchy and his wife Mary Ann, and their children Patrick and Alexandra; John Henchy and his wife Brett and their children Jessica and Frank; Gaye Henchy Bourgeois and her children, Adrianne and Owen. Judson Leonard and Katie Spann and their children survive Kathryne, the eldest sibling. Also left to remember her are many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jessie grew up as one of nine children and was part of the Ellender family from Houma, La. Surviving her in this capacity is her sister, Betty Ellender Lindsey and her brother -in -law, Dr. Clyde H. Lindsey of Baton Rouge. Jessie will always be remembered for the smile on her face and hospitality that was shown to anyone who came into her house. She was affectionately known as "Aunt Duck." Jessie Ann Henchy was a strong example of a Catholic person who lived her faith. By raising and educating five children, Jessie was an example of how to love God by being a Mother. She taught everyone around her the joy of generosity. Laughter surrounded her. She is an example that if you live your life in the knowledge of Christ that at the end, your loved ones will be at your bedside. Until the last few days of her life, she was vibrant, full of life, and had a wonderful mind. Jessie was blessed to have lived almost 93 years. The children learned to appreciate her for her true self. They were able see how she let go of this world to move into eternity. She provided an example of how to die with dignity. At the end she was the humble servant who suffered with no complaint, a smile on her face, holding the hands of her children. Jessie had love in her heart for God's gift of her life, children, and her husband, Francis. Everyone loved her. Goodbye Jessie Ann. The Henchy family would like to express thanks to Sharon Ramirez, Karen Marchand, Samantha Thomas, Pam Henry, Maria McCraney and all of her care givers. We would like to thank Annette Austin, Home Health Care and Hospice and Dr. Donnie Batie. Special thanks to Dr. Louis Hargus for his years being her doctor.
