

Jewel Roberts Evans, 97, a native of Bellwood and a resident of Baton Rouge, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010. She is survived by two daughters, Gay Nan Moree and husband Larry, and Linda Sivils; four grandchildren, Shannon Sivils, Jennifer Stanford, Candice Gray and Eric Moree; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Claudia Lucas; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, D.L. Evans; parents, Monroe and Mary Jane Sparks Roberts; three sisters and seven brothers. She was a longtime member of Istrouma Baptist Church and a graduate of Northwestern University. After her graduation she taught in the East Baton Rouge Parish school system for 25 years. She enjoyed hand work and had a special card ministry. She was also an avid LSU fan. Thanks to Nicole Austin, Caring Angels, and The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice staff. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Friday, Oct. 1, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Visitation at Istrouma Baptist Church on Saturday, Oct. 2, from 10 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m., officiated by Dr. Ferris Jordan. Pallbearers will be Bill Woodward, Jade Stanford, Jonathan Gray, Eric Moree, Sean Marshall, Jay Marshall, Mark McGrath and Ronnie Vail. Burial in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
