

John Paul Calmes, Sr., a mechanical engineer with DOW Chemical Company and father of six, left to be with the Lord at 12:20 a.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at his home in Baton Rouge. He was 84 and a native of Clinton, Oklahoma. While he loved Oklahoma football, LSU softball, carving, the holidays, and traveling, his true love was his family. He was a World War II Veteran, enlisting straight out of high school. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Friday, January 6, 2012 from 12 p.m. until religious services at 2 p.m., with the Reverend Jere Melilli officiating. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Survivors include two daughters: Carol Rush and husband Jimmy Rush, Sr., and Christy Smith and husband Bilwood Smith; three sons and their spouses: John P. Jr. and wife Cathy Calmes, Jeff and Debbye Calmes, and Jim and Bessie Calmes; 13 grandchildren: Christopher Calmes, Chad Rodriguez, Maggie and Jessie Calmes, Sharon Poirrier and husband Gary, Kane Calmes and wife Melissa, Josh Calmes and wife Angelle, Amy Pinkstaff and husband Ryan, Laurie Richert and husband Jason, Jimmy Rush, Jr., John Paul Calmes, Mindy Smith, and Bilwood Smith, III.; and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Chester and Laura Davis Calmes; his wife, Claudene Calmes; his son, Joel Calmes; and his brother, James Calmes. The family would like to especially thank John’s sitters Janet, Louella, and Robirda, nurse Nettie and Hospice of Baton Rouge for their exceptional care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Baton Rouge or the Salvation Army.
