

John Robert Jones, a native and resident of Baton Rouge, La. died on December 2nd 2023. He was born on September 16th 1941, and was 82 years old. He retired from Ethyl Corporation and was a member and Deacon of Goodwood Baptist Church. Survived by his son, David Jones and wife Michelle; daughter, Julie Jones Kidder and husband Travis; grandchildren, Megan Jones Derbes and husband Ray, Quinton Michael Jones and Matthew David Jones. He is also survived by his special friend of more than 20 years, Sandy Hohensee. Proceeded in death by his spouse, Billie Geoghegan Jones; parents, Quinton McQuade Jones and Naomi Sanchez Jones and infant brother, Quinton McQuade Jones Jr. John was a long-time member of the Boy Scouts of America obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow. He also served as a staff member with the Scouts and as a Ranger at Philmont Scout Ranch, in Philmont New Mexico. He was also a part of the elite Pershing Rifle drill team at LSU. He studied various martial arts throughout his life and obtained a second-degree black belt in Togakure Ryu Ninjutsu. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed kayaking on the Amite River, hunting and spent many years motorcycle riding at Chipola, Louisiana and was a former President of the Baton Rouge Trials Association Motorcycle Club. As per his wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no formal service. He wanted his ashes to be scattered at Chipola, La. where so many fond memories were made.
