With deep love and remembrance, we honor the life of John Davis Redmond, who passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday, May 4, 2025, at the age of 83. Surrounded by the love of his family, John embarked on his final journey with the same quiet strength, grace, and devotion that defined his life. John was born on July 18, 1941, in a small Louisiana town to Joe and Lola Redmond. As the eldest of three brothers, he took pride in leading by example and was a guiding presence for his siblings, Andrew and Paul. From an early age, John was instilled with the values of hard work, self-reliance, and perseverance—principles he carried with him throughout his life. A lifelong learner and deep thinker, John had a passion for books of all kinds. From classic literature, science fiction, science fact and philosophy, his love of reading sparked his curiosity and expanded his awareness of the world and beyond. But John didn’t just dream—he acted. Inspired by the birth of Rock ’n Roll in the 1950s, he transformed his love of playing the piano as a child into a lifelong passion for music. He was a talented pianist and singer who delighted friends and family with his ability to "tickle the ivories" and fill a room with joy. He was also a gifted painter whose art reflected his sensitivity and imagination, and a licensed pilot who found freedom and joy in the skies. Whether at the canvas or in the cockpit, John approached every pursuit with wonder, discipline, and quiet confidence. After graduating from Greensburg High School in 1959, John explored many paths. He volunteered in political campaigns, served a tour of duty in the Army, studied at LSU, and ultimately became a master electrician, a trade that brought him pride and purpose. The true beginning of his greatest adventure came when he met Maria Eluvia Zambrano, a young woman visiting Baton Rouge from Guatemala. For John, it was love at first sight. The two married in 1971 and spent 54 beautiful years together. Their love gave life to their son, Jason Richard and their daughter, Jasmine Melinda. Above all else, John was devoted to his family. He worked tirelessly to provide a loving, stable, and joyful life for them, never allowing hardship to overshadow his commitment. His love for Maria, Jason, and Jasmine was boundless and unwavering. John often reflected on life’s greatest mysteries. To his son, he once said that the greatest adventure a person can face is death. And while he met that final adventure with courage, it was the way he lived—with love, integrity, and curiosity—that was his true triumph. John is survived by his beloved wife Maria, his children Jason and Jasmine, his brother Andrew, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lola and Joe, and his brother Paul. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 6:15 PM at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70815, followed by a memorial service from 6:15 PM to 7:00 PM. John Davis Redmond will be deeply missed, but the legacy of his love, wisdom, and music will live on in all who knew him.
