John Anthony Scarbrough, loving husband and father, passed away on August 19, 2021, in Baton Rouge at the age of 56. He was a 30-year resident of Greenwell Springs. John was born in Lufkin, Texas. He was a man of many talents, good at whatever he tried his hand at. His most recent talent was drawing, where he taught himself to draw beautiful pictures of flowers. He was also a writer who wrote reflections and prayers for study groups. Another talent was woodworking where he built beautiful furniture and wood pieces for family and friends. He loved to fish, hunt, go shooting at the range, make his own ammunition, gardening, reading his bible, joking around with his children, and cooking. He was able to taste a dish and replicate it at home and it was always better than the original. He had a great sense of humor and made everyone better for knowing him. He was a respectful, kind, caring, loving, and humble man who liked to keep things simple. John was a member of St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church where he was a committed adorer at the Adoration Chapel. He was also a member of the St. Alphonsus Knights of Columbus Council 2807. John was employed by ExxonMobil Polyolefins (BRPO) where he was an Instrument Technician for 21 years. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 407. In March of 1986 he met the woman who would become his wife. They married in Youngstown, New York at Old Fort Niagara on October 8, 1988. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 33 years and partner of 35 years, Genet; and their children, Ashley, Edward, and Joseph, all of Greenwell Springs. He is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Scarbrough; paternal grandparents Kenley and Frances Scarbrough; maternal grandparents Cosmo and Clayton Roberts. John was a generous man and loved to help people. Please make donations to any charitable organization dedicated to helping people as he did. A Celebration of John's life will be as follows: Wednesday, August 25, 2021 Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, located at 11000 Florida Boulevard, from 6 – 9 pm. Rosary at 7. Thursday, August 26, 2021 Visitation at St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church, located at 14040 Greenwell Springs, from 9:30 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be his sons, Edward and Joseph Scarbrough; his father-in-law, Darrell Goff; his brothers-in-law, Timothy Goff and Robert Frey; and his nephew and godson, Nathaniel Frey.
