A retired resident and native of Baton Rouge, he died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, in Lafayette. He was 61. A memorial service will be held at the Aldrich Chapel at First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 3 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Chris Andrews. Survivors include a nephew, David Gilbert Poor; great-niece, Alison M. Poor; great-nephew, Michael E. Poor; aunts, Betty Garig Windham and Marion Garig Cowhey; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, James Martin Gilbert Jr.; mother, Shirley Garig Gilbert; brother, James M. "Jimmy" Gilbert III; and aunt, Eleanor Garig Brammer.
