Johnny J. Long, a resident of Denham Springs, LA, passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at the age of 79. He was an Athletic Trainer and teacher at Baton Rouge High School, Tara High School, and Istrouma High School. He was also Athletic Trainer at Louisiana Tech and Southeastern Louisiana University. He was an avid bass fisherman, and enjoyed cooking for various charity events. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Ann Long; his children: Bridget Ferguson and husband Mike, Johnny Long, Jr., and Charlie Long and wife Tara; and five grandchildren: Michael Ferguson and wife Sharon, Joseph Ferguson and wife Marcia, Marion Anselmo and husband Justin, Maggie Long, and Jacob Long. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren, and three nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Johnie W. Long; and his sister, Shirley Mae Bates. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd, from 5 pm until 8 pm. Visitation will resume on Wednesday morning at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church from 9:30 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am, celebrated by Rev. Michael Moroney. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pall bearers will be Michael Ferguson Jr., Joseph Ferguson, Jacob Long, Justin Anselmo, Brian Clouatre, and Trey Hammock. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Messina, John Daigle, Craig Mix, and Ronnie Moulard. We are so thankful to Julie, Todd and Ximaena from The Hospice of Baton Rouge for all the loving care they provided while Johnny was still at home. I would like to send my deepest appreciation to all the loving nurses and staff at the Butterfly Wing of BRGH. The amount of compassion they all showed to us during our hard time was above and beyond what we could have ever expected.
