Joseph Michael Higdon

"Joseph Michael Higdon was born in Baton Rouge, LA on September 5, 1988 to John and Jodi Higdon. He died on May 13, 2017 in Kitanakaguku, Okinawa, Japan at the age of 28. He graduated from St. Michael the Archangel High School in Baton Rouge in May, 2007. He then went on to join the United States Marine Corps. He served from 2009 through 2015 as a Sgt. and received numerous medals and individual awards during his time of service. During this time, he met his wife, Mika Matayoshi, and they were married on August 1, 2011. He continued his support of the Marine Corps as the Senior Systems Administrator and was an asset for the 3D Marine Division. Joseph loved his wife and children dearly, and was always taking his family on new adventures. He was a wonderful father and husband, and his family was his life. Joseph is survived by his wife, Mika Higdon; daughter, Sora May; son, Kaiyou John; daughter, Ren Jodi Maria; and son, Lui Noah Francis, all of Okinawa, Japan. He is also survived by his parents, John and Jodi Higdon of Seabrook, TX; grandfather, Robert Higdon; sister, Tiffany Higdon Runnels and her husband Cory Runnels of Westlake, LA; sister, Mary Pecora and her husband Joe Pecora of Prairieville, LA; sister, Andrea Harvey and her husband Terry Harvey of Moss Bluff, LA; sister, Jennifer Higdon of Seabrook, TX; sister, Trina Higdon of Dickson, TX;and sister, Annalecia Higdon of Seabrook, TX. Joseph had 11 nephews and 2 nieces. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Maybelle Higdon; grandfather, Frank G. Bologna; and grandmother, Elizabeth Bologna. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd, Thursday, June 1, from 5pm until 8pm, with a Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7pm. Burial will be at St. George Catholic Church Cemetery on Friday at 10am. Serving as Pallbearers will be Terry Harvey, Cory Runnels, Blake Runnels, Nicholas Runnels, Joe Pecora, and Patrick Higdon.
