Joseph M."Joe"Moran

At 9 a.m. Saturday, July 4, 2009, Joseph Mark Moran Sr., with his family at his side, peacefully passed from this life and received his promise of eternal life with our Lord. He was 93, born Dec. 15, 1915, to Carlo and Angelina Pocorello Moran. He was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge. Joe was a decorated World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific campaign. Following his honorable discharge, he opened Moran's Shoe Repair Shop in Baton Rouge from which he retired. Joe is survived by a son, Mark and his wife, Ramona, of Baton Rouge; daughter-in-law, Lena Giaconne Moran, of Baton Rouge; daughter, Julie Brewer and husband Glenn, of Jackson, Ala.; and son, Carl and wife Mary, of Gretna, also remain to cherish him. He is also survived by a stepson, Jake Donachricha and his wife, Lynn. He was blessed with grandchildren, Joey, Todd, Ashley, Elise, Casey and Amy Moran, Gina and Rachael Brewer and Brandon Donachricha; and great-grandchildren, Jaylon and Jayda Hill. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dean Moran; three brothers; sister; infant daughter; and first wife, Irene Harrelson Moran, the mother of his children. Evelyn Donachricha Moran, his wife of 36 years, also preceded him in death. Visitation at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Ave., on Tuesday, July 7, from 8:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Jack Nutter, celebrant. Burial in Roselawn Memorial Park, 4045 North St. In lieu of flowers, the family requests and desires that donations be made to the ministry which both he and Evelyn embraced and worked tirelessly to honor: the Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos Center, 2030 Constance St., New Orleans, LA 70130. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderfully caring staff of Heritage Manor for the loving care and kindness shown our dad.
