
"The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God my strength, in whom I will trust." Psalm 18:2. A loving father, grandfather, brother and friend died Sunday, May 10, 2009, at his home surrounded by his children after a long battle with cancer. He was 67, born Nov. 1, 1941, to Joseph Sauls Reeves and Shirley Elizabeth Barrett Reeves. He was a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of McComb, Miss. Preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Dura Reeves. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Todd Griffin, of Baton Rouge, and Amy and Andrew Mohr, of Denham Springs; son, Joseph "Scott" Reeves, of Baton Rouge; four grandchildren, Jessica Lane Griffin, Mason Reeves Griffin, Alexandra Elizabeth Mohr and Aubrey Summer Mohr; two sisters and brothers-in-law, June Barrett Reeves and Frank Cacamisse and Susan Beth White and King White; stepdaughter, Rhonda Branham; and two stepgrandchildren, Lance Lemoine III and Brennan Lemoine. Joe was a charter member of Broadmoor Baptist Church and a member for 52 years. He was an avid hunter and was blessed to have hunted all over the world, including Africa, where he felt the happiest and most peaceful. He was a lifetime member of the Safari Club International, National Rifle Association, the rifle association's Golden Eagles and the Hunters Run Gun Club. His career in heavy-equipment sales spanned more than 47 years. He was very successful in his career and was truly one of a kind! At the time of his death, he was employed with Doggett Machinery Services. He loved history, animals and hunting and had tremendous knowledge in these areas. He was a strong man who had a great love for his family and friends. He would like to thank his longtime friend and mentor, Mr. Frank G. Sullivan Jr., Kyle Stevens, Dr. Roy Kadair, the doctors and staff of Mary Bird Perkins, Barbara Sumpton, Leslie Doggett and all of his friends at Doggett Machinery Services. His children would like to thank St. Joseph's Hospice nurse "Don" and family Louis and Diana Ikerd. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Thursday, May 14, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation will be at Broadmoor Baptist Church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the religious service at 10:30 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Jarrett Banks, Dr. John Goodwin and Dr. George Haille. A graveside service will held at 2 p.m. Friday at Hollywood Cemetery in McComb. Pallbearers will be Charles Bahlinger, Fred Caddell, Ed Cotton, Dr. Carl Helouin, Louis Ikerd, Rannie Kean, Gary Patureau and Wayne Thornhill.
