Joseph B. “JB” Richard, Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, January 12, 2026, at the age of 98. JB was a retired process operator at Exxon Plastics and was a longtime member of St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church. He was a master craftsman in carving and woodworking; building, carving and transforming wood into beautiful works of art. JB enjoyed giving “a showing” of his work as much as the creation process itself and writing poetry. JB and Grace, his wife of 64 years, dedicated their lives to setting a wonderful example of devotion to the Catholic faith and their family. He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Philippines. JB is survived by his children, Joseph B. “Chip” Richard, Jr. (Michelle), David R. Richard (Ann), Carl E. Richard, Sr. (Brenda), Ann R. Perrin (Jerry), Aubrey L. Richard (Valerie), James E. “Jimmy” Richard (Lori) and Deanne Richard; grandchildren, Joseph B. Richard, III, Keri N. Richard, Rob Murray, Monika Harris, Todd Jackson, Carl E. Richard, Jr., Janelle Verbois, Jerry Perrin, Jr., Kathy Blanchard, Amy Guillory, Amanda Rufini, Emily Landry, Brooke Richard, Carter Richard, Cameron Richard, and Grace Richard; he is also survived by numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren. JB is preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Grace Richard; daughter, Mary Virginia Richard; and 10 siblings.
Visitation will be at St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church, 5354 Plank Rd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 10am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 12pm.
