

Joseph L. Wax, 92, passed away peacefully into the Lord’s hands, surrounded by his loving family on September 8th. He was born on January 25, 1931. He was a longtime resident of Baton Rouge and was affectionately known as J.L.
J.L. served our country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a graduate of LSU in Mechanical Engineering. He retired from the Department of Transportation, with 35 years of service as Deputy Secretary.
J.L. loved life and spent the best of times with his family and friends. He was a natural with a quick wit in making others laugh. He loved remote control airplanes and built elaborate train sets encompassing an entire room. He shared and entertained his grandchildren with his hobbies. He also loved a good game of Bourre.
J.L. was a devout Catholic and member of St. George and later, Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Churches. He was a loving father and husband. J.L. is survived by his 5 children, Daryl Wax (Karen), Gary Wax, Leslie Mix (Alvin), Jean Gremillion (Jack) and Toni Blouin (David). Grandchildren, Jessica and Taylor Wax, Brittany Saale, Logan and Dylan Wax, Lauren Salvail, Michael Mix, Kimberly, Kelsey, Mason Gremillion and Olivia Clement, Haley, Rachel and Hunter Blouin and spouses and 6 great grandchildren.
J.L. is proceeded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Juanita Wax. His parents, Joseph and Emily Wax, brothers, Rudy, Jimmy and Clarence Wax, and his sister, Claudia Vicknair.
A special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Pallbearers are Taylor, Dylan and Logan Wax, Michael Mix, Mason Gremillion and Hunter Blouin.
Visitation at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Ave., Baton Rouge on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from 9:00am to 10:30am followed by a funeral mass at 10:30am. Burial at Greenoaks Funeral Home at 9595 Florida Blvd.
