

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Juanita Browning Bates. Born on September 20, 1932, in Pride, Louisiana, Juanita lived a long and beautiful life rooted in faith, family, and service. A resident of Denham Springs, she was called home on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the age of 93.
Juanita was the cherished daughter of Henry “Edison” Browning and “Maggie” White Browning. Raised in Pride, she carried the values of hard work and kindness throughout her life. In 1953, she married the love of her life, Allen W. Bates Jr. They spent over 50 years in Central, where Juanita retired from the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board after many years of dedicated service.
She was a woman of many talents and passions—painting, gardening, sewing, and traveling were among her joys. Juanita created beauty wherever she went, whether through her artwork, her home, or the memories she made across the country and abroad with her husband and family. A faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church, she lived with a servant’s heart and exemplified grace, humility, and quiet strength. Above all, Juanita loved her family deeply. She poured her heart into them, supporting, guiding, and nurturing each generation with patience and unwavering love.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Edison and Margaret White Browning; her beloved husband, Allen W. Bates Jr.; her brother Archie Browning; and her grandsons, Michael Adam Bates and Travis Wayne Bates.
She is survived by her daughter, Melody Bates Martrain, and husband Chip, along with their sons Marshall and Beau, and his wife Aubrey; and by her son, Michael A. Bates, and wife Lisa, and their daughter, Sarah Bates Camp and husband Ryan. She also leaves behind her sister Carolyn Bond, and nine great-grandchildren who brought her tremendous joy.
She will be dearly missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral services at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd.,Baton Rouge, LA 70815 on Wednesday, February 25th, 2026 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
