Judie Norwood Gilbert, a native of Port Allen and resident of Baton Rouge, passed away at home on Saturday, May 25, at the age of 83. She will be profoundly missed, and she leaves her family with many beautiful and treasured memories. Services are scheduled for Thursday, May 30, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home (825 Government St., BR), with visitation beginning at 9:30 and service to start at 12:30, followed by burial at Cottonwood Cemetery in Lottie. Judie graduated from Port Allen High and LSU with a master's degree in education. She taught at Brusly Elementary for many years and, upon retirement, worked part time at the LSU Vet Med Library. Judie loved gardening, and her green thumb ensured that her patio was always full of blossoming plants. She was a wonderful cook, a master of etiquette, and she cheered for her LSU tigers with enthusiasm. She was a member of the Republican Womens' Group of EBR and a parishioner of St. John's United Methodist Church. Judie is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Lewis Barlow Gilbert; her beloved parents, Estelle and Waldon Norwood; grandparents, aunts and uncles; cousins Dean Freneaux, Bobby Freneaux, Christopher Norwood; several cousins-in-law, and sister-in-law, Virgie (Al) Genre. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Tasha Gilbert Ferguson; sister, Cheryl Norwood Taylor; brothers-in-law John Taylor and Robert James (Mary) Gilbert; sister-in-law, Claire Sarradet; aunt, Janet Norwood; cousins Patsy and Barbara Garcia, Darlene (Jimmy) Andre, Douglas (Janice) Freneaux, Charles Freneaux, Leland and Carl Norwood; nieces and nephews Ashley (Randal) Ledbetter, Jamie Taylor, Adrian (Tanya) Genre, Paul (Sharon) Genre, Alison (Joey) Thibodeaux, Chris Gilbert, Elise (Greg) Aycock, Erin (Ben) Wheeler, Taylor (Megan) Sarradet, Renee (John) Graff; great-nephews Daniel ("Bub") and Nathaniel ("Beau") Ledbetter; many other great-nieces and nephews, and several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. Pallbearers include Tasha Gilbert Ferguson, Ashley Ledbetter, Randal Ledbetter, Jamie Taylor, Paul Genre, Adrian Genre, Taylor Sarradet, and Renee Graff. Honorary pallbearers include John Taylor, Charles Freneaux, Douglas Freneaux, Jimmy Andre, Robert James Gilbert, and John Schuette.
