

Katherine (Kay) Stringer Stone, died peacefully at home surrounded by all of her children on Sunday, January 19, 2025. She will be remembered as Kay, Mom, Gan, Maw Stone, Great Gan and the most loving, generous matriarch a family could have.
Born on June 28, 1938, Kay was the daughter of the late Lee Douglas and Katherine (Kate) Stringer of McComb, Mississippi. She was the drum majorette of her high school band and was known for twirling fire batons. While attending the University of Mississippi she continued as a majorette with the band and was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. In 1957, she married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Stone.
As an only adopted child, she was blessed with the large family she always dreamed of. She and the late Dr. H. Jerry Stone had 4 children, 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren: Juli Shaffer, her husband Gordon and children, Amy Rowland (David), Austin Weiss, the late Alex Weiss, Adelaide Guin (Stephen), Audie Weiss, Matthew Shaffer (Gillian) and Mark Shaffer (Amanda); Jeni Bagnato and her husband John and children, Brittany Guffey (Josh) and Kaitlyn Statile (Joe); Joni Stone and her children Slayden Stone (Simone), Payton Stone and Sophie Bruckmeier (and her fiancé Brian Davis); Joey Stone and his wife Carter and children Eleanor Howell (Harrison) and Patrick Stone (Camille). Her children, grandchildren along with her great grandchildren: Lucy Statile, Katie Paige Rowland, Maverick Shaffer, James Weiss, William Rowland, Annelise Guffey, Penelope Statile, Addison Stone, Sophie Shaffer, Evelyn Guffey, Adeline Weiss, Chaille Howell, Sebastian Statile, Jasper Guin, Daniel Stone, Nell Howell, Colin Guin, Baby Stone (April 2025) and Baby Howell (June 2025) were a joy to her life, and she loved sharing their special moments and activities.
She loved playing tennis, fishing, snow skiing and enjoyed the great outdoors. She continued her education at LSU and graduated in 1981 with a BS in Accounting. Kay was an avid bridge player and enjoyed sharing this special time with friends. Kay was also a member of Study Club, Book Club, and many more throughout the years.
Visitation will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025 followed by a Memorial service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, if desired, memorial contributions would be appreciated to First Presbyterian Church Foundation and Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.
