

Kathryn Gwin Ellison died peacefully on August 15, 2015 at the age of 81 surrounded by her family in her home in Sunshine, Louisiana.Kathryn is survived by her husband, David M. Ellison, Jr.; her seven children, Diane Kingman and husband Brian, Kathy Smith and husband Tony, David M. Ellison, III and wife Ann, William Charles Ellison and wife Felicia Rabito, John Bennett Ellison, Robert Gwin Ellison and wife Denise and Oliver Scott Ellison; her seventeen grandchildren, Matt Kingman and wife Katie, Alex Kingman and wife Megan, Kathryn "Ryn" Ellison Smith, Sam Smith, Katie Ellison Leake and husband Andrew Leake, Elizabeth Ellison, Ian Ellison, Calley Ellison, Sean Ellison, Ara Ellison, Emily Ellison, Ross Ellison, Erin Gwin Ellison, David Hall Ellison, Jack Ellison, Clayton Ellison and Alise Ellison and her four great-grandchildren, Charlotte Kingman, Benjamin Kingman, Hadley Lefeaux and Logan Leake. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Ara Dunn Gwin and Alexander James Gwin, and her two brothers, James Gwin and Charles Gwin.Kathryn was born in Dallas, Texas on January 7, 1934 and was raised in New Orleans. She was a graduate of LSU in Baton Rouge, where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority and a Kappa Alpha Rose. It was at LSU where she met David, whom she married on August 2, 1955. The couple recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with friends and family. As an active member of the Baton Rouge community for over 60 years, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Baton Rouge Country Club, Baton Rouge Junior League, Morning Callers, Decorator's Club and was also a Diamond Life Sponsor of Ducks Unlimited. The lives, strength, and family bonds of the couple's seven children reflect the legacy of her strength and love.Special thanks to all of her caregivers, especially Feliciana Home Health and Dr. Louis R. Minksy.Also special thanks is given to four of her many close friends Carolyn McInnis, Billie Claire Phillips, Sylvia Woodward and Mag Wall for their love and support during her final days.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Louisiana Chapter of the American Lung Association.Visitation will be at the First Presbyterian Church (263 North Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA 70802) on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 from 10:30 AM until the Memorial Service at 12:00 PM.
