

"Longtime Baton Rouge resident and retired attorney, Ken Barnette, died at 11:00 a.m on December 6, with his daughters by his side. He was 92. Ken is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jill and Lee Herrington and Robin and Dan Reed; six grandchildren and their spouses: Ben Herrington, Zach and Rachel Herrington, Alexis Herrington, Natalie and Matt Thomas, Emily and Logan McIlwain and Melanie and Logan Schroeder; and five great-grandchildren, with one more on the way: Reed, Hannah and Allie McIlwain; Julia and James Thomas; and Baby Herrington due in May. He is also survived by two sisters, Julia Ann Budwah and Patsy Soileau. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Orien and Ina Boggs Barnett; two sisters; two brothers, and his beloved wife of 60 years, Fran. Ken was born in Plain Dealing, Louisiana, on February 21, 1925. He was a graduate of Plain Dealing High School, LSU and LSU School of Law. He was a veteran of World War II. As an infantryman, he fought and was wounded in the Battle of Jebsheim near the French-German border, for which he was awarded a purple heart. Ken will be remembered as a true gentleman, for his work ethic and for his love and devotion to his family. Rabenhorst Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visiting will be in the Ory Parish Hall at First United Methodist Church on Friday, December 8, from 11:00 a.m. until services at 1:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Ken's ashes will be inurned in the church columbarium, next to Fran's. Memorial donations may be made to the church or to a charity of choice. More importantly, please honor his memory by thinking of him from time to time, and by doing something kind for someone. The family wishes to thank the caregivers and staff of Sunrise on Siegen for the love they showed him and our family over the past year.
