

Lawrence Allen ("Larry") Melsheimer, 70, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2016, in Jonesville, Virginia, while on an Appalachia Service Project mission trip with the First United Methodist Church. A native of Plaquemine and resident of Baton Rouge, Larry graduated from St. John High School of Plaquemine, Louisiana State University with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering, and the Krannert Graduate School at Purdue University with a M.S. of Industrial Administration. After graduate school, Larry served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He was a part of the Army's Air Defense Artillery Brigade and was stationed at Osan Air Base in South Korea. Upon completion of his military service, Larry commenced his 40 years of service at Iberville Bank, where he was President and CEO for 30 years. During his tenure, he co-founded the First National Bankers Bank in Baton Rouge, served as President of the Louisiana Bankers Association, and was elected to serve as a Director of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas. He served as President of the Plaquemine Rotary Club and was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. Larry is a member of First United Methodist Church and member of the Trinity Class. He has served on the ASP Mission Team for three years and has participated in First Methodist's Revive 225 mission.Larry is survived by his wife Susan Hays Melsheimer and their son Matthew; his son Charles (Charlie), wife Jackie, and their children Allison and Christopher of Dry Creek, LA; and his son Andrew of Dallas, TX. Larry is also survived by his siblings and their spouses: Steve and Patsy Melsheimer of Seneca, SC; Jane and Gil Groendyke of Livingston, TX; Michael and Sheryl Melsheimer of Baton Rouge; Susan Marie Melsheimer and Therese Bourgoyne of Prairieville; Claire and Gary Rabalais of Houston, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel S. Melsheimer and Marie Louise Colomb Melsheimer. Visitation will be Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 930 North Blvd, Baton Rouge, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. in the church sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Larry's honor to the Appalachia Service Project, 4523 Bristol Hwy, Johnson City, TN 37601. The family also wishes to thank each of the seven members of the 2016 ASP team for the loving care they offered Larry and their outreach of love to Susan and teenage son Matthew.
