

Lester passed away peacefully at home, Friday, March 3, 2017, surrounded by his family. A resident of Baton Rouge, born in Independence, Louisiana on April 12, 1930 and grew up in New Roads, LA. He was 86 years old. He grew up on a farm where hard work was instilled which he passed down to his children. Lester attended Poydras High School in New Roads and served in the National Guard for several years. His chosen career was in appliance repair where he retired as owner of Strate Appliance Service in 1995. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing, baseball, and especially LSU sports and the Saints. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a loving and supportive husband to his wife of 65 years, Rita Kleinpeter. He is survived by 5 children and spouses, Bonnie Glass (Leslie), Nela Drouin (Ralph), Cathy Lieux (Paul), Rita Roberts (Steve), Les Strate; 10 grandchildren and spouses, April Sears (Dave), Scott Grayson, Melissa Funk (Jeff), Jason Drouin, Landon Lieux (Sarah), Austin Lieux (Brittany), Lauren Roberts, Philip Roberts (Hailey), James Roberts, Jeremy Roberts; 7 great grandchildren, Daniel and Haley Sears, Caiden, Noah, and Parker Funk, Seth Drouin, and Skylar Lieux. He was preceded in death by parents, George Strate, Jr. and Veletta David; siblings, Elizabeth Guillaume, Milton Strate, Delores Guerin, George Strate III, Glynn Strate and Joyce McMurry. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70815, Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at St. Louis King of France Church beginning at 9:30 am until Mass of a Christian Burial at 11:00 am conducted by Father Micheal Alello. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Louis King of France Church, 2121 N. Sherwood Forest Dr. Baton Rouge, LA 70815.
