

Llewellyn Allen "Lew" Proctor Sr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 21, 2014. Lew was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. He was born in Vicksburg on October 30, 1924 where he spent the first 13 years of his life. During the Depression his parents relocated to New Orleans and at 16 years old he joined the Marine Corps. Soon after turning 17 years old he was engaged in the Battle of Midway as an anti-aircraft machine gunner, where he earned the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon. He was honorably discharged at the end of World War II and with assistance from the new GI Bill finished high school and became the first in the family to attend college. He graduated from Loyola University, New Orleans and began a career as a chemist working for the New Orleans Custom House. After graduating from LSU Law School in 1956, Lew practiced patent law at Ethyl Corporation. He lived away from Louisiana briefly but moved his family back to Baton Rouge in 1964. He practiced patent law at Exxon Research and Development Laboratories until his retirement in 1982. He continued a private practice until 2005. Lew enjoyed learning. Wherever he lived, he took college courses from engineering to theology. Lew was always known to have a smile on his face and a book in his hand. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Alfred and Ruby Tillery Proctor and his granddaughter, Kelly Baechle. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Audrey Schlosser Proctor; one daughter, Antoinette (Toni) Seal; three sons John Michael and wife Nancy, Dr. Llewellyn Allen, Jr. and wife Mary; Donald James Proctor and wife GAE; all of Baton Rouge; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and one sister, Nona Proctor of Commerce, Georgia. Visitation will be at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Tuesday, September, 23, 2014 starting at 10:30am until Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00pm with interment to follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
