

Lois Hatchell Thompson, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her home at 8:55 pm, Tuesday, September 23, 2025. She was born Nov 21, 1933, to Mildred Brown Carpenter and Ernest Lee Carpenter of Denham Springs and resided in Baton Rouge with her husband, Gerald “Jerry,” of 38 years. Lois owned and operated Baton Rouge Sewer Service for 10 years before retiring. She proudly embraced a blended family of five daughters, eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Her wisdom, guidance, patience and support were the gifts she bestowed on all those who loved her. Survivors include her daughters, Laynette Hatchell Spring (Donald), Julie Hatchell Jumper (Daryl), Jayne Thompson DeJean, Marie Thompson Pierce (Mert), and Elizabeth Thompson Lemoine (Hansel); grandchildren, Cathleen Bordelon Siersema (Tim), Curt Bordelon, Jason Spring (Jamie), Tommy Spring (Meg), Jeremy Lemoine (Joanna), Cory Lemoine (Jenna), Chev Pierce (Shantel), and Sharla Pierce; twelve great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald “Jerry” Thompson, brother, Carroll Carpenter, and her parents. Visitation will begin on Friday, October 3, from 5 to 8 pm at Rabenhorst Funeral Home (11000 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge), recitation of the rosary at 7:00 pm. Visitation on Saturday, October 4, will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church (11441 Goodwood Blvd) with the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Father Eddie Martin will preside. Burial will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park (9595 Florida Blvd) with Deacon Joe Scimeca performing graveside rites. Readings will be proclaimed by Beth Lemoine and Marie Pierce. Gift bearers will be Lois’s granddaughters, Cathleen Siersema and Sharla Pierce. Pallbearers will be Lois’s grandsons, Jason and Tommy Spring, Curt Bordelon, Chev Pierce, Jeremy and Cory Lemoine. The family is grateful to The Hospice of Baton Rouge for their compassionate care, and to caregivers Paula, Shywanda, Chiquita, Shakedria, and Dyranesha.
