

Louis West Stirling, resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on August 16, 2024, at the age of 96. Louis was a graduate of Baton Rouge High School and Louisiana State University, where he served in ROTC and achieved his Architectural Engineering degree. Upon graduation he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in Germany as a 1st Lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers. Upon returning to the States he married and pursued a career in architecture that would span over six decades. Louis was also a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church where he served faithfully as both deacon and elder. Among his favorite pastimes were photography, watching LSU sports and spending time with his family… particularly while camping all over the country with his brothers and their families.
Louis was preceded in death by his wife of 62 ½ years, Shirley Paxton Stirling; daughter, Lawrie Linfield Stirling; father, William Mumford Stirling, Sr.; mother, Bessie West Stirling; and brothers William Mumford Stirling, Jr. (and his wife Bea) and Lawrence Linfield Stirling. He is survived by his daughters, Carolyn “Barrie” Stirling Willis (Chan), Susan Stirling McKey (John “Bubba”), and Claire Stirling Welsh (John); grandchildren, Chandler Willis (Claire), Christine Willis Bothel (Jon), Catherine Willis Richard (Danny), Lauren McKey Mott (Thomas), Elizabeth McKey Sims (Ryan), Jack Welsh (Annie), Stirling Welsh, and Alex Welsh; great-grandchildren, Evangeline, Gabby, Valerie, Cecelia and Riggs Willis; Anders, Hailey, Emerson and Caroline Bothel; Wyatt, Lilly and Sam Mott; Layla Sims; Ella, Madeline, and Harper Welsh; and his 4 beloved nephews and their families.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at First Presbyterian Church of Baton Rouge, in the Dunham chapel, from 9:00 am until a memorial service begins at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery in St. Francisville. The family asks that donations be made to First Presbyterian Church in lieu of flowers. The family would also like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Sunrise of Baton Rouge Senior Living Community for the care given to their father, and to Mr. Pat O’Donoghue and the church family at F.P.C. for their love and support.
