"A native and resident of Baton Rouge, he passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. He was 83. He retired from the United States Army as Lt. Colonel. He received the Bronze Star and the National Defense Medal. He was a graduate of Central High School, Louisiana State University, the University of NW Missouri where he received his MA in Business, and completed Undergraduate studies at the University of Omaha. He was also an Eagle Scout and a Mason. He is survived by his wife, Marge Schwab Varnado; his daughter, Michele Denise Gonzales; and his son, Charles Barry Varnado, Jr. and his wife Dana Jones Varnado. He is also survived by 2 sisters: Carmen Varnado Borne and Linda Varnado Fabre and her husband Jerry Fabre; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Buddy. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Mavis and Bennom Varnado, as well as his grandparents. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, 10230 Mollylea Drive, from 9am until funeral service at 11am, conducted by Rev. Ken Carroll. Entombment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park Mausoleum.
