Lucille "Lou" Beth Cusimano Murphy passed away March 18, 2025. She was born in Baton Rouge on November 5, 1945, and was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Robert E Lee high school, and soon after married her high school sweetheart, Leonard Eugene "Gene" Murphy on August 21, 1964. Gene passed away 1 month shy of their 55th wedding anniversary.
Lou was a devoted homemaker, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She stood by Gene after he had a devastating injury in June 1978, and continued that devotion through many months of rehabilitation and beyond.
She is survived by her children, Leah Calandro (Mark), Tracie Johnson and Patrick Murphy (Maggie); her grandchildren, Joseph, Taylor, Jordan, Hayden, Natalie, Katie, Mitchell, Sarah, Haley, Wade and Levi; and by 6 great grandchildren, Izzy, Tip, Kinleigh, Ivar, Everest, and Seve, arriving in July, and a step great grandson, Mac. Also survived by her sisters, Joanne Bourgeois and Barbara Gilblair.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; her son, John (Buff); her parents John and Mildred Cusimano; and brother, Robert (Butch) Cusimano.
A special thank you to Lou's nurses with Pinnacle, Anne, Annette, Barbara and Brandy.
An even bigger thank you to her special cousin, Henry "Bucky" Soniat, for his many years of kinship. Lou enjoyed receiving his steady stream of thoughtfully written letters in the mail, and cherished his many visits to her home.
Per Lou's wishes, a private service was held on March 26, 2025 with burial at Greenoaks Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Joseph Pizzuto, Taylor Calandro, Jordan Calandro, Hayden Murphy, Mitchell Murphy and Lenny Johnson.
