

Mabel Lane Johnson went home to be with The Lord on January 8, 2018. She was a native of Colquitt, GA and a lifetime resident of Baton Rouge, LA. She was 96 years old. Mabel was a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, aunt, dear friend and inspiration who cherished her family and many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Rannie Lane of Colquitt, GA, husband Dr. Jack D. Johnson, and son Charles L. Johnson, both of Baton Rouge. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Kay Johnson Singer (Robert) of St. Francisville, son Jack D. Johnson, Jr. of Mt. Dora, FL; Grandchildren Claire Johnson Mixon of Monrovia, MD (Duane), Christy Johnson Ruppenthal of Silver Spring, MD (Kevin), Jennifer Cheatam of Metarie, LA (Scott), Ashley Simoneaux of Thibodaux, LA (Walter), Emily Elizabeth Poche McNulty of Baton Rouge (Scott), Joshua N. “Nate” Johnson of Philadelphia, PA and Benjamin Lane Hu of Mt. Dora, FL. She is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren. Mabel was an example of courage and self-sacrifice in leading her young family through the uncertainties resulting from her dear husband Jack’s untimely passing. Throughout her life she was a rock of dependability to her family and to the community. She will be missed profoundly by all who had the pleasure of knowing her through the many years. Hers was a race well run. The family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Grace Health and Rehab Center, in Slaughter, whose efforts helped Mabel enjoy her final years in an environment that truly felt like home. A Visitation service will be held at GreenOaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd. at 1pm on Thursday, January 11, 2018 until service at 2pm. Interment to follow on the grounds of Greenoaks Memorial Park.
