Malvina Mary Brown Roberts, “Tidda”, “Mimi”, departed from this world on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at the age of 94. She was a beauty queen (Miss Iberville and Miss Sugar Queen) that was born in Plaquemine, LA, on April 28, 1929, to the late James Calhoun Brown and Malvina Jumonville Brown.
Tidda attended and graduated from St. John’s Catholic School. After a stint in business school, she went to work at the Bart-Well, a clothing and dry goods wholesale business. She fell in love with her boss, Floyd Roberts, and they were married on February 27, 1949. Floyd was her hero, and they shared the same priorities of family, faith, and food for almost 65 years. Moving to Baton Rouge in 1956, Floyd and Tidda had four beautiful children, Floyd “Flip” Jr., Randy, Reggie, and Becky, who all grew up in Broadmoor. As a young mother, Tidda was involved with her children at every level, serving as room mother and volunteering at Broadmoor Elementary School. Her greatest joys were her family and Tiger Football. She and Floyd had season tickets, never missing a home game and attending many away games. As her children grew, so did her family and pride - seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and her love was big enough for all of them. In Heaven, Tidda will join her sweetheart, Floyd, and continue being the gracious hostess for which she was renowned. She will be given the keys to a pristine Cadillac in a premier parking spot at Tiger Stadium. Heaven will include endless Tiger games where LSU will win by no less than three touchdowns, unscored upon. The referees will make rulings exclusively in LSU’s favor. Laid out before her will be an endless buffet of candy and desserts she can enjoy without gaining a pound, all while wearing a size four dress. You can bet that she and her beloved cousin, SeSe, have already made a gambling trip to the boat where the slots surely paid out the jackpot for her! Most importantly, she and Floyd will carry on the tradition of Sunday dinner for her family, feasting, swapping stories and reliving good times. Geaux Tigers! Tidda is survived by her four children, Floyd J. Roberts, Jr. MD, (Nancy), Randall J. Roberts (Missy), Regina Roberts Rieger (Frank “Broxy”) and Rebecca Ann Roberts, all of Baton Rouge; grandchildren, J. Paul Roberts, II (Claire), Andrew John Roberts (Lydale), Sage Roberts Foley (Cullen), Brian James Roberts (Josie), Benjamin Roberts, Rebecca Greer (Andy), and Frank Godfrey Rieger, IV (Jordan); great-grandchildren, Andrew John Roberts, Jr., Margaret Norwood Roberts, Alexis Claire Roberts, Patrick Davis Roberts, Lena Kate Roberts, Patrick Jay Roberts, Owen Joseph Greer, Emory Wren Greer, and Leland Edward Foley; and a host of other loving family members and friends. Tidda is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Sr., parents, and brothers, J.C. Brown and Pat Brown. Visitation will be at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Ave., Baton Rouge, LA, on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, from 9:15am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10am. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Guests are welcome to wear purple and gold in honor of Tidda. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Sunrise Senior Living, especially the Memory Care Unit, and The Hospice of Baton Rouge for their loving and attentive care for our Mimi. Donations in memory of our Tidda may be made to Baton Rouge Green, Our Lady of Mercy, or the charity of your choice. Family and friends are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.greenoaksfunerals.com
