Surrounded by family Margaret Meyer, 91, of Baton Rouge, LA stepped into everlasting life on April 30, 2016. Born in Leola, South Dakota to Ida and Julius Zantow, she was one of 12 children. She was the first in her family to graduate from high school and she continued her education, completing a nursing degree. It was while she was in the Navy Nurse Corp stationed in California during WWII that she met her future husband Joe L Meyer, a Marine. After raising her five children she reentered the nursing profession, working at Woman’s Hospital until she retired after 18 years of service. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe; her parents and many of her siblings. She is survived by her children, Dawn and Douglas Harris, Jean Meyer, Laura and David Hinchee, Joe and Erica Meyer (grandchildren: Jacob, Ava and Nick Meyer), and Rebecca and Jim Evans; and, by her sisters, Elsie McBride and Meta Vetter (husband Pious). She enjoyed volunteering for many years as a Girl Scout leader, and as the camp nurse and director at the Girl Scout day camp Yola Kahn. In addition, she spent many hours volunteering at her church, St. Paul Lutheran Church. Her love for crafts, sewing, quilting, gardening and cooking she passed along to her children and grandchildren. We want to thank her caregivers Gloria Washington, Mary Lockman, Shaneka Williams and Deatric Jackson for making her passing comfortable. Thanks also to Hospice of Baton Rouge for their care. In lieu of flowers, donations to Presentation College (1500 North Main Street, Aberdeen, SD 57401) – Margaret Meyer Nursing Scholarship, St. Paul Lutheran Church (2021 Tara Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70806), or Hospice of Baton Rouge (www.hospiceBR.org) are appreciated. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday May 3, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 11AM. Arrangements have been entrusted to Greenoaks Funeral Home.
