Margaret “Peggy” Nelson Werner, 90, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022. Affectionately known as Mimi, she was born on October 31, 1931, to the late Robert “Emmet” and Thelma Nelson. Peggy is survived by her caring husband and best friend William “Leonard” Werner to whom she was lovingly devoted to in marriage for 56 years. Peggy is also survived by her loving, attentive sons William, Jr. “Bill”, and Steve, and daughter-in-law Hope. Mimi will be dearly missed by her 3 grandsons Tyler, Jordan, and Clayton Werner. She has been reunited in heaven with her three brothers Bobby, Don, and Ray Nelson. Peggy devoted her life to her family, raising her children while working alongside her attorney husband as his secretary for many years until they retired to enjoy life as grandparents. Her love of life was demonstrated by her enthusiasm for traveling with her family, attending LSU sports with her family, watching her grandchildren play sports, and her weekly trips to the casino. Her incredibly positive outlook on life is a credit to her deeply rooted faith in God. A beautiful, sweet, strong woman, Peggy lived life to the fullest and was always fun to be around. Pallbearers will be Tyler, Jordan, and Clayton Werner, Mark and David Nelson, and Jim Harold. Honorary pallbearers will be Jay and Bill Marcin, and John Andrishok. The family will receive guests at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church at 400 Marquette Ave. on Friday, January 28, beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon followed by a funeral mass to celebrate the full, beautiful life of Peggy at 2:30 p.m. A graveside service will follow mass at Roselawn Memorial Park, 4045 North St., Baton Rouge.
