Marguerite Newchurch Aucoin was born on August 28, 1924 and peacefully passed away 10 days shy of her 100th Birthday. She was affectionately called “Billie” by family and friends, and “Honey” by her beloved husband, Arthur E. Aucoin. God calls us all to be fishers of men, but Marguerite was special. Marguerite was called to “Garden” for God and that she did. She tilled not only the earthly soil but also spiritual soil through her prayers, rosaries, novenas, and dedication to her faith. Mom has many prayer books. There was no limit to who she would pray for… family, friends, friends of friends, those that she did not personally know, and the deceased. When someone would pass away, she moved their name to her “dead” prayer book. She said even the dead need prayers. Mom will be greatly missed by many.
Marguerite was joined in this faith-filled life by her husband of 56 years, Arthur E. Aucoin, who preceded her in death. Today, Marguerite and her “Honey” are reunited in the Glory of God’s Kingdom along with their son-in-law, Reeves Garrison, their daughter-in-law, Mona Verbois Aucoin, their two granddaughters, Wendy Aucoin Robinson and Jessica Aucoin, and her parents and seven siblings.
Marguerite is survived by two daughters, Lucy Garrison and Fran Tompley (Joe), six sons, Robert (Linda), Ed (Sarah), Richard (Kay), Daniel (Vicki), Kevin (Tammie), and Ken (Liz) Aucoin. Marguerite’s teachings and wisdom live on in her 22 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Her family will always remember that there is a “fat” coke and a “skinny” coke, that you get a “killer” (snack) after dinner, and to always praise the Lord with a resounding “Amen, Yes Lord!” when good things happen.
Reeves Garrison III, Nick, Matt, Rick, Brian, and Adam Aucoin will have the honor and privilege of carrying their precious “Granny” to her final resting place alongside of her beloved husband.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank Father Jeff Bayhi and Father Todd Lloyd, the Rosary ladies, her niece and caregiver, Cindy Nuesslein, the ‘Gala Girls,” The Hospice of Baton Rouge, and the many family and friends that kept her in their prayers. We are forever grateful for your outpouring of care and spiritual support!
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Metanoia Manor, P.O. Box 178, Zachary, La. 70791 or https://www.metanoia-inc.org/partners.
