
A respected wife, mother and elementary school educator in Claremont, California for many years, Noonie was born September 14, 1928 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Bernadette Keller and John Joseph Copponex, and graduated from St. Joseph Academy High School in Baton Rouge in 1946. She and Farley moved to Pomona, California in 1956 in support of his teaching and coaching career, where they raised their daughter and son, while teaching catechism at Our Lady of The Assumption Catholic Church in Claremont, California for many years. Noonie's passion for teaching inspired her to return to college and finish her degree in education. In 1979, she graduated with Honors from LaVerne College in California, and began a long teaching career, teaching 2nd and 3rd graders at Condit Elementary School in Claremont for many years. Many long standing friendships were with former students and other educators up until the time of her death. Mrs. Day is survived by her daughter Mary and husband Larry Thacher of Johns Creek, Georgia, son Farley and wife Shari Day of Hendersonville, TN and granddaughters, Brittany and Hayley Thacher and Jacquelyn, Alexandria and Victoria Day and grandson Patrick. She is also survived by sisters; Patricia Hannie and Effie Hardy and brother; Fred Copponex of Baton Rouge, along with many local nieces and nephews. A viewing will be Wednesday, January 29 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East 11000 Florida Blvd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Cathedral in Baton Rouge at 10:00am on Thursday, January 30, 2014, the church where Noonie and Farley were married. Burial will be at Greenoaks Cemetery in Baton Rouge. Mary Ellen "Noonie" Day passed away on January 25, 2014 at the age of 85 in Roswell, Georgia. Born Mary Ellen Copponex, Noonie was born and raised in Baton Rouge, as was her deceased husband, Farley Day; she's survived by a much more immediate family in Baton Rouge.
