
Mary Manship Gladney passed away while sleeping peacefully at her Baton Rouge home on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008. She was 80 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Washburn Gladney; her father, William Lewis Manship; and her mother, Adelaide Wolfe. Her ancestors included Charles H. Manship, artist, painter, and Mayor of Jackson, Miss., during the Civil War; Luther Manship, the former lieutenant governor of Mississippi; as well as her uncle, Charles P. Manship Sr. Mary was personable and energetic. She delighted in conversation on any subject. Her life was dedicated to her children, grandchildren, great-granddaughter and their extended families and friends. Mary attended Baton Rouge High School, Ward Belmont School, Ole Miss and LSU, where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. Mary was a member of St. James and Trinity Episcopal Churches and the Junior League of Baton Rouge. She was a retiree of Fidelity (later Hibernia) National Bank. She is survived by her four beloved children, William W. Gladney Jr. and his wife, Mary, Mary Gay Gladney, Lewis M. Gladney and his wife, Mary, and Luther B. Gladney and his wife, Miriam; as well as her nine grandchildren, Nathan D. Koenig, Sarah F. K. Landrum, Patrick L. Gladney, Ariel A. Gladney, Jessie A. Gladney, Wm. Logan Gladney, Adelaide M. Gladney, Antoinette M. Gladney and Katherine R. Gladney; and her great-granddaughter, Charlotte A. Koenig. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., was on Tuesday, Dec. 30, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Visitation on Wednesday at St. James Episcopal Church, 205 N. Fourth St., at 10 a.m. and will continue until funeral service at 11 a.m., presided over by the Rev. Mark Holland. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park on North Street. Pallbearers will be William W. Gladney Jr., Nathan D. Koenig, Jeffrey T. Landrum, Patrick L. Gladney, Jessie A. Gladney and William Logan Gladney. The family would like to extend their thanks to her physicians, Dr. David Fontenot, Dr. Robert Kenny, Dr. John McLelland, the staff at the Baton Rouge Clinic and Fresinius.
