
Mary Jane Holder Lane died peacefully in her sleep at her home on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, with her faithful, furry companion Pal by her bedside. Mary Jane was born on August 19, 1941, in Charleston, South Carolina, to William Calvin Holder and Ruby Eiland Holder. The family moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi, shortly thereafter where Mary Jane was raised.
After her father died on September 19, 1954, Mary Jane and her mother moved to Baton Rouge where she attended Louisiana State Universality and earned a master’s degree in library sciences. Mary Jane was employed as a Librarian at LSU for 30 years.
Mary Jane married Edwin Doyle Lane in 1976 and became stepmother to his four sons: David Neil Lane, Douglas Paul Lane, Dwight Marcus Lane (deceased), and Duncan Ray Lane. Mary Jane and Edwin had a full and active life, mainly attending LSU events. She was a member of University Baptist Church and a dog lover all her life. Mary Jane was intelligent, meticulous, and undertook any project or cause with immense passion.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her father on September, 1954, her mother on April 17, 2004, and by her husband on July 1, 2010. Mary Jane will be buried next to her husband Edwin and her parents in a private graveside service in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
