

Mary Scardina Ricouard, a resident of Baton Rouge, LA passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Sunrise Senior Living Community. She was 89 years old. Mary was born on August 11, 1924. She was one of seven children born to Nicolo Scardina and Maggie Michelli Scardina. Anxious to spread her wings Mary entered the working world right after graduating from high school. She moved into a small apartment with her sister Ann and promptly secured a job as a secretary. She loved the working world and became very proficient in the world of finances. She married her sweetheart Murphy Ricouard on April 4, 1949 and moved to New Orleans, LA for a short time. She spent the rest of her life in Baton Rouge. She was a lover of the written word. Writing poetry and a novel brought her great pleasure as did the company of young children. She especially loved the visits of her neighbor children whose fun and laughter gave her much pleasure in the waning years of her life. Mary will be greatly missed by her last surviving sibling Kenny Scardina and her nieces and nephews Diane Covington, Linda Fontenot, Kathie Moise, Pat Demouy, Ray Scardina, Allan Scardina, Keith Scardina, Leigh Ann Scardina, Glenn Scardina, Bret Scardina, Wendy Quinlan, Sidney Scardina, Tara Mayo, Nina Eldridge and Mark Scardina. In the last years of her life Mary felt herself fortunate to have found a special friend in Bob Watson. Her family is grateful to and would like to thank all those who made the last years of her life more pleasurable and comfortable, especially the staff at Whealdon Estates, Sunrise Senior Living and Sincerity Services. Services will be held at Rabenhorst East on Saturday, May 10th. Visitation from 9:00 am - 11:00am with religious services beginning at 11:00am lead by Catholic Deacon Louis McGinnis. The rosary will be recited at 9:30am. Burial to follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
