

Loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, and friend, Mary Juanita “Nita” Crochet Use was entrusted to God's loving care on December 4 at age 75 after a brave battle with cancer. Nita was born in 1941 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Nita was one of 11 kids. She was a long-time resident of Baton Rouge. Nita was a graduate of Redemptorist High School, Class of 1959. Nita is survived by her three children, Davis Use Jr. & wife Carmen, Rene' Use Veazey & husband Russell "Chuck", and Laura Use Olinde & husband Darren; her brothers, Robert Crochet, Thomas Crochet & life partner Tim Gardner, Ray Crochet & wife Mary, Paul Crochet & wife Marilyn; six grandchildren, Beck Use & wife Angela, Alex Use, Morgan Olinde, Cooper Olinde, Justin Veazey, and Gracie Veazey, as well as numerous sisters- & brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Edward Davis Use, Sr., her parents Albert and Martha Crochet; brothers Richard, Warren & Donald, sisters Joyce, Martha Anna, and Libby. Married for 49 years to her best friend, they enjoyed working together in the jewelry business and enjoyed fishing, the camp, and living and loving life. Nita retired from working with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Department in the Warrant Division. In her retirement years, she moved to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi and enjoyed visiting family and friends. Her hobbies included making fancy cookies at Christmas, spending time with her grandkids, tinkering around her house and yard, and she was an avid game player. Nita was also LSU Baseball’s biggest fan. She affectionately referred to the team as “her boys” and never missed watching or listening to a game. A devoted Catholic, Nita was a long-time parishioner of St. Alphonsus Church until she retired and relocated to the Mississippi Gulf Coast and became a member of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church. Join our family in celebrating her life. Visitation will be Monday, December 12, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church beginning at 9:30 a.m. with funeral Mass following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will immediately follow Mass, at Greenoaks Memorial Cemetery. The family would like to give a special "thank you" to the Southern Care Hospice team. The family would also like to express their appreciation for the many family and friends who have offered their prayers and assistance throughout their time of need. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of Nita’s favorite charities: St. Vincent de Paul or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
