
Mary Sue Harrison Vernon, 96, died Thursday, June 23, 2011. She was born July 10, 1914, to John Franklin Harrison and Anna Mary DuBose Harrison. Mary Sue graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a music degree in May of 1935. Her love of music remained with her throughout her entire life as she played the piano and organ at Ingleside United Methodist Church from 1947 to 1971 and remained a faithful choir member until 2010. Mary Sue married Byron Murphy Vernon in November 1935 and they remained married until his death on June 12, 1982. She taught in Bienville for two years and taught another 21 years in East Baton Rouge Parish. She was at Westdale Elementary when it opened. Mary Sue and Byron moved to Baton Rouge in 1937. In 1944, she and Byron purchased Twin Cedars grocery with his sister, Aline Vernon Campbell and her husband, John Sherman Campbell. They sold that property in 1958 which later became the Bocage Center. Mary Sue is preceded in death by an infant son, John Byron (Nov. 17, 1936"“May 16, 1939). She is survived by her daughters, Betty Byron Vernon, of Sacramento, Calif., and Sharon Vernon Siddons and her husband, Doyle Siddons, of Dallas. She is also survived by her grandsons, Scott Vernon Siddons and his wife, Juliet Baugher Siddons, and their daughters, Sarah Vernon and Ashley Lynes, of Dallas, Jason Sherman Siddons and his son, Gibson Ivan, of Orange, Calif., and Chad Key Siddons and his wife, Whitney Lockhart Siddons and his three daughters, Caroline Campbell, Piper Avery, and Finlay Claire, of Paoli, Pa. Betty and Sharon wish to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Mary Sue's nephews and their wives for their attentiveness to their mother in their absence and to all the caregivers over the last few months. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Sunday, June 26, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Services at Ingleside United Methodist Church, 4264 Capital Heights Ave., on Monday, June 27, at 11:30 a.m., with the Rev. David Bricker and the Rev. Terry Ellis officiating. A graveside service will be held in Liberty Hill Cemetery, Liberty Hill, at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
