
She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother and a faithful friend to many. She was a true servant in her church and was known for years for visitation ministry and baking for delivery to friends. She had a keen sense of humor and brought joy to all around her. A homemaker and a native of Caryville, Fla., Mary died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at her home in Baton Rouge at age 95. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation resumes Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. until religious service in the chapel at 12:30 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Sammy David. Interment in Baton Rouge National Cemetery. Survived by her daughters, Eloise Walters, of Baton Rouge, Geraldine "Jerry" Longmire, of Elgin, Texas, Helen Mann and husband Dalton, of Baton Rouge, Jane Molbert and husband Michael, of Lacombe; sons, Ray Walters and wife Geri, of Denham Springs, Alex Walters and wife Connie, of Vero Beach, Fla., Charles Walters, of Glendale, Ariz., Terry Walters and wife Nancy, of Loveland, Colo., Ralph Walters and wife Ingrid, of Longmont, Colo.; sisters, Ivy Blanchard and Helen McKenzie, both of Baton Rouge; 36 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, William L. Walters Sr.; three sons, John Walters, Robert Lee Walters and Edward Theodore Walters; daughter, Rita Adcock; two stepdaughters, Norma Brabham and Johnny B. Compton; parents, Elmo I. and Mattie Catlett Coates; three sisters, Neva DeLee, Aline York and Mamie Morgan; brother, Edward Coates; and stepson, William Walters Jr. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
