

Retired East Baton Rouge Parish School Teacher, she was a resident of Baton Rouge, and a native of Baskin, La. She passed away Thursday May 3, 2012, at the age of 84. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Monday May 7, 2012 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Graveside Services on Tuesday May 8, 2012 at 9 a.m. in Greenoaks Memorial Park. She was a longtime member of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church, 9340 Florida Blvd. A Memorial Service will held on Tuesday May 8, 2012 at 10 a.m., in her memory, conducted by Revs. Judy and Ted Roeling. Maxine is survived by a daughter, Sandy Deaton Gelatt, and husband Richard (Skip) Gelatt; two sons, Larry Deaton and wife Amanda Swearingen Deaton, and John Deaton and wife Georgia Cox Deaton; nine grandchildren, Darris Deaton and wife Tiffany Deaton, Ryan Gelatt, Emily Gelatt, Jacob Deaton, Jordan Deaton, Genna Deaton, Justin Deaton, Jocelyn Glass, and Jordan Glass; two great-grandchildren, Duely Deaton and Dana Deaton. She was preceded in death by her husband Darwin (Dabo) Deaton, mother Wilene Cummings, father Lester Mike Cummings, three brothers, Waller Mac Cummings, Thomas Earl Cummings and Dr. Mike Cummings.
