

"Melvin "Roy" Eunice passed away peacefully on September 27, 2017 at the age of 82. Roy was proud to be a Navy veteran having served on the USS Curtiss during the Korean War. He participated in Operation Redwing and Operation Wigwam, a series of nuclear tests in the South Pacific in 1955 and 1956. He also participated in Operation Deep Freeze in Antarctica in which the Navy assisted in Geophysical research. After his service, Roy attended LSU in the School of Architecture. He taught drafting at the Baton Rouge Vocational Technical School for 22 years. He later worked in industry alongside many of his former students designing process piping using CAD. Roy was a master storyteller always delighting his family with stories from his childhood. He was a "scratch" bowler participating in city bowling leagues for many years. He also enjoyed educating his children, grandchildren, or anyone else who would listen about his passion of antique cars. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Frances Eunice; six children, Dana Smilie (Bob) of Salisbury, NC, Mel "Corky" Eunice (Anne) of Baton Rouge, Nancy Baldwin of St. Gabriel, Stan Eunice (Robyn) of Prairieville, William Eunice (Phoebe) of Denham Springs, and Joe Eunice of Anchorage, AK; 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be his six oldest grandsons, Jake Smilie, Paul Smilie, Michael Eunice, Marcus Eunice, Scotty Baldwin, and Zach Eunice. Visitation will be Friday, September 29, 2017 at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. It will resume on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until a funeral service at 10:00, officiated by Pastor Kevin McKee. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
