Michael Dale Adkins passed away on July 24, 2024. A lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, he is survived by his parents, Wilbert Earl Adkins and Myrna Janelle Hanks Adkins, his sisters, Nancee Adkins Green and Karen Adkins Brown, and his brother Steven Kyle Adkins and sister-in-law, Diane DeMaria Adkins. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and many cherished friends.
As the youngest of four, Michael shared a unique bond with each of his siblings. Like his sister Nancee, he was extremely talented and innately creative. He could create an “event-ready” display using only a basket, tin foil, some ribbon, a few flowers, glitter, and some super glue, making it look like he had spent months working on it. He had a knack for envisioning a room's best look and transforming it in a short amount of time.
Like his sister Karen, he was the ultimate 'free spirit,' intent on making everyone feel comfortable and at ease and forming life-long friendships from chance encounters. The two siblings also shared a love for gardening, enjoying the peace and serenity of planting a new flower or simply pulling weeds -- all in the company of their canine friends.
Michael and his brother Steven shared the special gift of “MacGyverism,” a term we used for their incredible ability to make, fix, and create just about anything while making it look easy. Their resourcefulness often amazed us, and the finished product was always a masterpiece, with no pieces left over!
These are the memories that will live in our hearts and bring smiles to our faces when we remember Michael because that’s who he was at his inner core. He was always ready to help a friend in any way he could, his compassion and love shining through in every act. He was giving, funny, and happy—and he would give you the shirt off his back if he thought it would make you happy as well.
Lastly, as we all have experienced in one way or another, life is sometimes difficult, challenging, and unkind. Our hope and prayer is that Michael is at total peace and free of all pain and suffering. Most of all, our deepest desire is that he now knows how much he was truly and deeply loved.
A memorial visitation for Michael will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70815, followed by a memorial funeral service from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM.
