It is with great sadness that we announce the death of my husband and best friend and Jackie's daddy, Mike Schutzman. Mike passed away Monday evening, October 21, 2013 at the Baton Rouge General-Bluebonnet. He was 61. Mike was a proud graduate of Istrouma High Class of 1970 where he served as Key Club President and was in the marching band. He attended USL but returned to Baton Rouge to begin working for Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. He spent the next 30 years there loving the people and his job. The day before he started working for DOTD he had his first date with his future wife, Karen Fly. They married a year and a half later and were married for 36 years. They were blessed with a miracle, Jacqueline Rene, but she was always Mike's "Scooter." Mike is survived by his wife, Karen; daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Daniel McKinnon; father-in-law, Ronald Fly; and mother-in-law, Lawanda Fly. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Tammy Fly; a godson, Connor Schutzman; nieces and nephews; and his "bud," Ollie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton and Mary Lee Schutzman. Pallbearers will be Derek Hudson, Lyle Schutzman, Connor Schutzman, Lendel Schutzman, Keesler Fly and Kameron Fly. Honorary Pallbearers are Dave McFarland, Kelly McRight and Gary Magee. Visitaiton will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and on Friday, Oct. 25, from 9 a.m. until services at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Greenoaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd. Memorial donations can be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, PO Box 4196, Monroe, LA 71211.
