
Millard Eugene Byrd Jr., M.D., died Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at the Baton Rouge General Hospice Butterfly Wing. He was a lifetime resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, born on May 18, 1925. Dr. Byrd is survived by his wife of 67 years, Winifred Evans Byrd; son Dr. Richard Lindsey Byrd and his wife, Dr. Lori Nelson Byrd; three grandchildren, Lindsey Evans Byrd, Clifton Nelson Byrd, and Melissa Ashby Byrd. He was preceded in death by his parents, Millard Eugene Byrd Sr. and Rufine Ashby Byrd; two sons, Millard Evans Byrd and Douglas Ashby Byrd; a sister, Rilma Byrd Hutchinson of Houston, Texas. He practiced general surgery in Baton Rouge for thirty-three years. He was well respected by his medical associates and remembered by his patients for his surgical skills, compassion and his wonderful bedside manner. Dr. Byrd was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed his many years of retirement, traveling and most of all fishing with his family and friends in Golden Meadow, Louisiana. Upon his request, a private graveside service, conducted by Rev. Chris Andrews was held at Roselawn Cemetery Friday, July 11, 2014.
