In the early hours of March 13, 2021, Myrna Loy Kenney Siers left this life the same way she lived it: expectedly unexpected. Born on July 9, 1938, as the oldest child and only daughter of Loyd and Estelle Kenney, Myrna Loy was the joy of her daddy’s life, so much so that he named her after his favorite movie star. With a namesake like that, maybe her love of adventure was inevitable. She enjoyed telling her grandchildren stories of growing up in a segregated New Orleans and her adventures with her late husband, Jim. Sometimes the same story more than once, and you could tell her so, but that wouldn’t stop her from telling the story again. Myrna married the late Frank Loupe in January 1961 and, together, they created three daughters, each of whom inherited different parts of their mother’s free spirit. Not one to sit still for long, Myrna eventually found new adventures in her life and married Jim Siers, the man she called her best friend, in October of 1984. Their travels created many stories Myrna would treasure and reminisce about to her grandchildren in the years after Jim’s passing as age took its toll on her body. Though she remained sharp of mind to the end, and she was always quick to remind us of that fact, Myrna struggled with many health issues that brought her back home to South Louisiana. There, she learned to find happiness in the simple things in life like her great-grandchildren, sitting outside on a beautiful day, snuggling with her dog Ty, and eating Popeyes fried chicken. Myrna loved food almost as much as she loved her family, but she may have loved coffee even more, especially that first morning cuppa. Her affections came in simple ways like singing happy birthday to whoever’s special day it was and telling us how proud she was of our accomplishments. Her unguarded laughter was a sound that would put any cackling witch to shame. Much like her laugh, her words were also unguarded, and we never knew what would come out of her mouth. In fact, we never knew what to expect from her for anything. But in the last months and days of her life, Myrna was sure to let everyone know how much she loved them, starting with her two oldest daughters, Robin Loupe Bates and Tammy Loupe Burkett. Those left to treasure her memory include her grandchildren, Brandon Durst (Jessica), Ronald Durst, Jae Dawn, Travis Durst (Kaci), Brittany Alford (Travis), Stephanie Bates (Gage), Alanda Holliday (David), Alicia Lewis (Shad), and Bethany Lewis (James); great-grandchildren, Alexis and Sadie Durst, Jackson and Caroline Alford, Graysen McCreary, and Levi, Luke, and Laurel-Lane Holliday; youngest brother, Stanley Kenney and his wife, Linda; three nephews, Derek, Chad, and Sonny; and honorary family members, Karen Kubura and Kristi Moore. We are so grateful to both of them for their love and care of Myrna throughout the years. After Jim passed in 2013, Myrna made sure we knew her deepest wish was to be cremated and her ashes laid to rest next to his at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. In rejoining Jim in spirit, she is also rejoining her youngest daughter, Penny Loupe Wyatt, parents, and brother, Lloyd Richard Kenny, Jr. We wish her many new adventures in her eternal life.
