

Myrtle Roberta Lee Gehringer (also fondly called Maw Maw or Momma G) passed away following several months of declining health on Monday, October 6, 2014 at the age of 88. Those who knew her will remember her selfless caring ways, always thinking about others instead of herself, the way she always sent cards to everyone, her gentle and yet "get-it done" spirit, and of course her wonderful cooking. There was always something delicious to eat in her kitchen. Myrtle was by her husband, Gerald's, side throughout his career as a family physician, from office manager of his private practice in Kentwood, to his transition to teacher and department head for LSU School of Medicine, and finally to his path of becoming President of the American Academy of Family Physicians. They traveled to almost every state in the US during this time. She was a comfort and an inspiration to everyone she came in contact with. She was a loving mother, wife, daughter, and friend and will be missed by many. Myrtle was an active member of Parkview Baptist Church where she served on the Senior Adult Council for many years and was a member of Betty Istre's Sunday School class. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nan and Rodney Davis; two grandsons who she loved more than life itself, Kyle and Scott Davis; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frank and Fay Gehringer; one niece, Jenny Gehringer; and one nephew, Jeffrey Lee. She is also survived by her extended "Davis/Landry" family. She was preceeded in death by her husband of 50 years, Dr. Gerald R. Gehringer, whom she lovingly cared for the 12 years prior to his death; her parents, Annie Bell Perrey Lee Blizzard and Ira Ernest Lee; two brothers, Ernest and John "Buddy" Lee; three children, Beth and Raymond Gehringer who died at birth and Dooley Gehringer who died at the age of 21; and two nephews, Frank Gehringer III and Randy Lee. The family would like to thank those who cared for her in her final years "¦ the staff at Amber Terrace Assisted Living and Nottingham Regional Rehab Center, the many doctors and nurses and aides at both BR General and OLOL Hospitals, her special sitters Caroline Jones, Krista Jones and Janie Smith, her faithful friend Ann Bolton, and the staff at St. Joseph's Carpenter House. She was able to visit with every member of her beloved immediate and extended families in the days leading up to her death. Pall bearers will be Rodney Davis, Kyle Davis, Scott Davis, Dock Davis, Ernie Landry, and Frankie Gehringer. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street, from 9:00am until the religious service in the chapel at 11:00am, conducted by the Rev. Merlin Liverman. Visiation will resume at McKneely Funeral Home of Kentwood from 2:00pm until the religious service at 3:30pm, conducted by the Rev. Merlin Liverman. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gerald R.
