Ouida Marness Lester Bacot, a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, died Friday, December 10, 2021, at her daughter’s home in St. Francisville at the age of 97. She was born on January 30, 1924, in Monroe, Louisiana, to George William and Erie Buatt Lester. Mrs. Bacot is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marness "Missy" Bacot Frye, Dr. Barton Lee Frye, her brother, Col. George William Lester, USAF (Ret.) and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband John J. "Buck" Bacot. Mrs. Bacot received a Bachelor of Science from Louisiana Tech University. She continued her education at Louisiana State University from which she received a Master of Science. She was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority and Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional education sorority. She was a member of Saint James Episcopal Church. Mrs. Bacot was one of the original flight attendants with Delta Airlines. After marrying, she began her teaching career, eventually becoming a school counselor in EBR Parish School System. She retired in 1983. From an early age she developed a love for science and nature. She enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening, collecting rocks with holes through them, and caring for her beloved cats. Every stray that appeared at her door was given a loving home. Mrs. Bacot was a kind and compassionate person who will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. She was loved by her family and friends with the same intensity that she showed in her love for others. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst East, 11000 Florida Blvd. from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday December 14, 2021. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
