

Patricia Copponex Hannie, Feb. 26, 1935"“Jan. 21, 2016. "God shall wipe all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away." Pat Hannie died at 2:50 AM January 21, 2016, at her home, her loving husband by her side. She was 80 years old. She lived a long life, raising five children, constantly involved with her family, community and her church. Pat graduated from St. Joseph's Academy, LSU, and Tulane University. She received a Master's Degree in Psychiatric Social Work. She married James Joseph Hannie on June 14, 1957, while he was attending LSU Medical School. She pursued her career in social work until she began raising a family in 1959. For the rest of her life, her priorities were church, family, and community. The biggest loves were God, her husband, and her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, James Joseph Hannie M.D. Additionally, she is survived by her sons and their wives Christopher and Nita Hannie; Brian and Cindy Hannie; Shawn and Jennifer Hannie; and Patrick and Angie Hannie. She is also survived by seven grandsons, five granddaughters, and two great-grand daughters. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Erin Hannie James, and grandson, James Patrick Hannie. Others who predeceased Pat were her parents, Bernadette Keller Copponex and John Joseph Copponex; her siblings, Margie Wells, Effie Hardy, Shirley Killgore, Bernice Barry, Buddy Copponex, and Freddy Copponex. At various times in her life she was a member of the National Catholic Education Association school board; the founder of the Louisiana Catholic Education Association, which helped establish St. Michael's Catholic High School. She was also co-founder of The League of St. Michael the Archangel, an organization that offered education about the Catholic faith. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 24, 2016, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street. Visitation will resume Monday, January 25, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church from 9:00 AM followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. The Mass will be conducted by Father Cleo Milano and Father Michael Galea. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery, 4045 North Street. In lieu of flowers, Masses are requested.
